On Friday, August 27, 2010, at about 3:30 p.m. Portage la Prairie RCMP as well as local EMS and Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal off road vehicle collision in the RM of Portage la Prairie. The collision occurred on a farm property located just East of the City of Portage la Prairie.

Investigation revealed that two 11 year old boys were operating a 4 wheel, 2 seat cargo type all terrain vehicle on a private farm property when the vehicle overturned. The passenger escaped without injury, however the driver was trapped under the overturned vehicle. Both boys reside in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

The injured boy was transported by ambulance to Portage and district General Hospital. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he succumbed to his injuries.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

There were no other persons or vehicles reported involved in the collision. Police continue to investigate.

The name of the deceased will not be released. No further information will be released at this time.
