| RCMP investigate workplace fatality in Virden |

On August 29, 2010 at about 9:30 a.m. Virden RCMP were dispatched to the scene of a workplace fatality. Investigation revealed that a 32 year old man from McLean, Saskatchewan, had been working at an oil drilling site when the fatality occurred. The site is located near Virden, Manitoba in the R.M. of Pipestone. Witnesses report the man had been working with a load of steel collars ( described as large metal pipes) when the load shifted, pinning him between them. The man was freed by co workers and transported by ambulance to the Virden Medical Center. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he succumbed to his injuries. The name of the deceased will not be released pending notification of next of kin. There were no reports of any other injuries or damages in relation to this incident. RCMP and Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety continue to investigate. No further information is available at this time.
